Çipil is a red tabby cat. He lives with his young owner. He wants to go out with him every morning as his owner leaves for work. But the young man does not let him go out. He locks the door and leaves Çipil alone in the house.  

Çipil stays alone all day long. He plays, sleeps and dreams. He hears strange voices coming from the street. He looks outside from the balcony. But he can only see some trees and buildings. 

Çipil has the same dream every day: he is running fast in short green grass. But the dream is never completed. A noise, sometimes a helicopter, sometimes the voices from the street wakes him up before the end of the dream. 

He is happier when his owner arrives. He eats, plays with the young man and then they watch TV together. Çipil looks at the TV but cannot understand anything. He only hears strange noises. The only word he understands is Çipil. But he can feel the anger or love in his owners voice and expressions. 

For Çipil each day is identical to all others. At night he jumps at the door. He knows that the door is the only way out. But all his efforts are useless. His owner gets angry with him for the noise he makes in his attempts to go out 

Çipil has another dream one day. The door opens suddenly and he sees trees behind it as if the door were opening to a forest. He runs between trees, listening to birds singing. 

One day his owner comes back shortly after leaving for work to pick up something he forgot. As he searches around, he leaves the door ajar for a second. Çipil, takes the opportunity and escapes. The owner, unaware of Çipil's escape, closes the door and leaves for work.  

Cipil looses his way in the building. Every door is the same, he cannot find the way out nor home. Like all cats, te concept of a "floor" is alien to him. He cries in the building but no one answers. He stays in the building all day. 

When the young man comes home, not seeing Çipil greeting him at the door, he realizes that something is wrong. Quickly remembering the brief moment when he left the door ajar, he begins to search for Çipil first in the apartment and then in the building. He finds him in one of the upper floors. He takes Çipil back home.  

Çipil does not make any noise that night. He just sleeps. In the morning, he doesn’t even try to go out with the man. He just stares at him while he locks the door. Çipil stays alone in the house once again. He looks out through the window for a while. He listens to childiren's voices on the street. Then he falls asleep on the desk. In his dream, he runs in the forest once again. This time the dream is not interrupted. He runs in the grass for a while but shortly the grassy patch comes to an end and he finds himself on the sidewalk. A car passes.
